Two 'minor' problems

When I lift off the clutch its makes a quite loud squeaking sound, there aren't any problems with the clutch itself. I was wondering if there are any parts I can lubricate on it as it sounds like its rubbing on something. I dont have a jack so can't get a very good luck underneath.

Also the ignition barrel fell inside the dash but i managed to get it back into place as I had the keys in so was able to pull it back. It seems fine at the minute but I dont want to push it to check incase it falls in again. Is there a way I can get behind the dash?

Thanks

The squeeking sound, does it go once the clutch is engaged, does it make the same sound when the engine isn't running?
The ignition switch is held in place by a chrome nut that screws on from the front if you cant see it between key and switch you have lost it. Have a look on the floor. there shouldent need to get behind the dash, But if you want to you have to remove the glove box liner

Clutch squealing very loudly will probably be the release bearing. Not alot you can do except change it...

Lift the gearbox tunnel cover (not an easy task!) and then you can oil/grease the pedal movement.

Re the ignition switch. If your car has the aluminium surround to the speedo and switches there should be a lockring around the ignition barrel. If it is the earlier car with the painted surround then there should be a pair of tiny nuts and bolts that fix the barrel to the underside of the dashboard.

If your clutch is "squeaking" (shreiking, squealing) as the car moves off, I would suspect its worn down to the rivets, and the noise is the rivet heads getting polished!! It may still appear to work fine for some while, but you are soon going to work out the best way to replace it!!! I would go for the gearbox out as you can do a lot of the work inside the car, handy if its raining.
Sounds like you have an early ignition switch, as the one with the screw on ring is fairly self evident, and you presumably would have had the ring "trapped"on the keys when it fell apart! So look for a couple of tiny nuts/bolts on the parcel tray/floor. Note if it is anything like mine, you can lose amazing quantities of bits & pieces on the parcel shelf under the heater housing- use a torch, the minor isn't a big car, unless you have holes in the floor, the screws will be there somewhere!!

It's not the pedal itself squeaking is it?
Mine did when I got the car, it was rubbing on the edge of the floor and made a horrible racket.
I just smear some grease on the part that rubs which stops the noise for ages.
Soon I'll lift the floor and sort it out properly.
