Hi.

Does anyone know how much a full respray costs on average?

My car bodywork is dull and has rust spots so will need some paint work.

Thanks for any advice!

well depends what is needed for prep and welding

and the glass etc will have to come out for a proper job, doors off, window frames out, all chrome off

but i wouldthink for a good job starting at £2500.00

Wow!

I didn't think it would be that much. Cheaper to just buy another car!

I better buy some cans of paint then!

Thanks!

I've heard heard very good things about rustoleum in relation to VW type 2 busses. Some people have even managed to get a mirror shine with lots of time and effort!

Ah good old "Rustoleum" I've seen some good but lots bad! you need to ask yourself. what sort of finish do you want? What is wrong with the finish you have? A good go over it with a cutting compound and a touch up from a spray can might be all you need. If its rusty, you need to get rid of the rust or it will just come back through again. (with any kind of paint) Also where will you paint it? painting outside always causes problems with insects ect. and unless its a really clean garage dust will be a problem. Have a look thriugh your local "Autotrader" or free motoring papers, there are often small garages, bodyshops etc advertising spray jobs for very realistic prices. If you really fancy a go with the Rustoleum, allow yourself plenty of time and budget in reams of wet and dry paper!!

The paintwork is very bad unfortunately, even after T-cut etc.

I think I've got no choice but to paint it. I've painted a Beetle in the past with average results that I was happy with!

Money is very tight as I'm unemployed at the moment, that's why I'm looking for a cheap solution. it doesn't have to be showroom good or a competition winner or anything.

I quite like 'rat look' actually but I think that it more suited to Beetles!

Thanks for all the advice. I'm really enjoying the forum!

She will be on the road soon. I gave her a good wash and T-Cut and she looks a lot better now!
