Go east young man, go east!!

I've looked at the forecast, tomorrow is the day!

I'm going to leave the map at home and just drive east by the compass. At every junction I'll take the road that heads most east and see where I hit the coast.

In the perfect world Sizewell is exactly due east from my house! I wonder where I will get to.

The weather forecast is poor for here tomorrow, but better the further east I go.

So I'll let you know tomorrow night.

If I get close enough I will make a short diversion to Pakenham in Suffolk where my forefathers lived from the fifteenth century to the late 1800's when they moved to London to make their fortune! There are still people there with the same surname as me. Nothing grand as far as I can tell they were all farmhands.

More to the point, if once you get there (where?) you did the same for the return journey, but west, would you ever get home?

no chance, but I have an advantage - I know where I live!

Sounds like you've done a bit of family history research Roger, something I'm currently doing too.

Excellent idea - I think I should do the same but go North and see how long it takes to eventually end up in Glasgow!

Stag, I didn't know Glasgow was by the sea!

West should take me to New Quay in Wales, south to Littlehampton(ish) and North to Robin Hoods Bay once I gat past the Humber.

Those trips are for later this year!

What do you do if you end up at a T junction and the only option is North or South?

Melt down! Glasgow is 'on the sea' - the Clyde is tidal right up through most of Glasgow.

Well I'm back,

I had to make some value judgements Ray, the roads were pulling me South East so I had to do the occasional NE to make up for it. It took a little while, but I drove through lots of tiny villages I would have missed on the dual carriageways.

It was less miles through the villages and lanes, but it took an hour longer going than coming back. The sad thing is I won't ever be able to remember the route.

Perhaps someone else would like to do something similar - this could catch on.

233 miles all in all - I left at 07.30 this morning.

I ended up at Dunwich beach in sight of Sizewell but a few miles North

.

It was sunny for the whole trip until I was nearly home. Here are a few pics of Pakenham the land of my ancestors.

Roger, I was on the beach at Aldeburgh with the girls yesterday afternoon, about the same distance south of Sizewell as you were to the North. There was a quite a crowd here pondering over something glinting in the distance. Must have been you opening the MG door!
