Do i need only to buy part 70 on this diagram? ...

It seems like the rust has gone through two layers of metal, but the part that the door hinges on is really solid, so im assuming that someone at some point has repaired this section before by sandwiching in the rust.

Hi Andrew,
I guess you didn't get my e-mail the other day - I didn't get a fail message this time tho.
I'll stick the message on the message board when I get to my home PC this evening.

I'd go and replace it all with part 69, as the inner wing looks pretty shot too, not just the kidney panel.

here's the e-mail from Tuesday..

yes, 70 comes as part of the package if you buy 71 or 69.
However - never buy 69 - I think this is rubbish! The inner wing should come right up to the section that the hinge bolts to... Therefore if you buy 69 then there will be a piece of inner wing missing / not connected.
The cover plate acts as a triangulation piece, so if you don't repair or replace the hidden bit of the inner wing, you will only have 2 sides of the triangle (that just isn't strong).
As the inner wing is flat sheet in this area you may as well remove the cover plate (#70) and repair the inner wing with sheet steel then refit a good cover plate.
From memory the cover plate is thick steel so maybe the rot has spread it so much it looks like 2 pieces - or it is 2 plates, but that seems odd.
Having said that, it is common for new panels to be put straight over the op of the old as it saves time, although it is bad practice as it makes the rot occur much faster.
Ray.

ok, thanks.

I didn't receive your e-mail, it appears the entire university internet connection/e-mail server is down at the moment. They must be having problems :)

I understand now. I think that it has been bodged in the past with a new cover welded over the top of the old.

That part 69 didn't look right to me, especially with half of the inner wing as part of it.
