royal mail sorting test

Post by dalebrignall »

i had a sorting test at work today, basically, they are trying to pull hours away from us to do the job,i think that harpenden where i work usually clears what we have for the day.i think its the bigger offices that have the problems, and leave stuff behind.the test was 34 items of mail sorted to the correct selection in one minute.i did 42 i was well pleased especially as it was done on the spur of the moment, guess i wont lose my job.

Working from home for the last year or so means I've got on first name terms with our posties, they are good lads who work hard, they just shrugged their shoulders at the recent requirement they were given to do their rounds at 4mph average. I can't even walk that fast let alone deliver letters at that speed.

Our postie is a proper nice bloke, because of the weird shifts I work I often get to see him. He loves the dog too (and the dog loves him, sticking his head out of the catflap waiting for the postie to turn up is a favourite trick!)

i might have to do it again as the person testing me was a depuaty manager, there has been a lot of ***p said today at work.our training officer has stuck her ore in today saying that she will test everyone.im going to refuse and let the manager test me. not a jobs worth postperson who has been in the job 6months more than me.and ill do the test when i finnish my round, not first thing in the morning.that way the boss will be the one doing the testing.i was just upset by the attitude of this person, and the boss just agreed with her,so i am going to be a bit billigerent over this as i have done the test already.

If you do 42 - you will be required to do 42 all day every day. Just do the rate they ask for ! What happens if you 'fail' this test - have they trained you in 'sorting' skills ??

the only way you learn it is by doing every round in the office.i have doneabout 10 out of 30.i dont know all the selections but i would say i know about 95% of them .you do pick it up.i dont see how they can train you to do this, when i started it was 500 items in 20 mins.they say they will train you but i cant see this happening were i work.this is a crossing the ts and dotting the i,s.they cant sack you over this its a load of rubbish really jobs for boys me thinks.
