Hi guys
Just wondering if the forum has a preferred insurer?
SAGA have just turned me down as the reckon my Morris 1000 is to old for them!
Any suggestions?

If you do a search on hear for insurance, you'll find lots of reccomendations. I personally use RHclassic.
http://www.rhclassicinsurance.co.uk/
£60 for fully comp and includes breakdown cover.

Gotta have some of that. Is that limited mileage?

Unlimited mileage. Just coming up for renewal so maybe slightly higher this year. Classic car insurance is way cheaper than ordinary motor insurance, if you use a classic specialist.
Give them a ring, they are very helpful and give you an instant quote over thew phone.

Hi John, There's a club scheme run by Footman James. If you're a member of the MMOC quote your membership number. They should be able to help you.

Thanks for the tip.
I already have insurance with them or it might be Adrian Flux - for my Atom.
Cheers
I have combined the 2 posts as they are for the same request.

I must admit that RH are getting my vote at the moment.

Me too - not quite as cheap as £60 though! But they do allow me to 'add on' my TR7 in the summer months for ~£9 per month - which is a good deal.

RH all the way. Amazing prices.
The club scheme is not really a help to the club any more as they still charge a premium for sorting out policies with exactly the same underwriters as RH do. Greedy IMO.

I've used a number of companies over the years.
If your car is something special you need to check reputation and also find out if the underwriters are well thought of.
Otherwise, then you can shop around on price... but low price brokers can often be useless due to understaffing and general shoddyness
Classic car mags often have half a dozen pages of adverts near the back with a whole list of names to try.
Quotes seem to be made up on the spot so if you have a preffered company, get some good quotes first then use them to get a better price with the firm you want!
2 years ago I had a massive quote on the Trabbi from a well known firm that I have used called ## - as I couldn't transfer their Morris Minor policy on to the Trabi. I ended up with Sureterm (who are VERY efficient) following a recomendation. Later that year I heard of really low Trabi quotes from ## - no idea where they got my prices from.
Last year the biggest hurdle I had to get the Minor on the road was missing insurance docs, again from ## - the first and second docs never arrived despite many weeks and I ended up having to get there and collect them by hand. I had a new MOT but couldn't tax the car to go on the LEO
(## name witheld to avoid breaking T&C's. I'm certainly not using them again in a hurry)
For my last classic insurance quoe, RH were the most expensive (That's the opposite of my normal choice). The cheap ones become expensive if you can't change from one classic to another and end up needing more policies!
With RH I'm assured that multiple car policies are the way to go - so hopefully by the middle of the year I'll have one classic car policy instead of 3!!
they did say camper van's may cause problems to be added on a standard policy, but when I mentioned my Marina camper, they were pretty optimistic.

Well I've just insured with Footman with the club service, as no one else would include my son as a provisional driver.

Nobody would take me as a provisional driver, not even Footman. I'm insured with them now though.

Sadly typical of the kind of tripe that insurance company's turn out these days
You may remember from a previous thread that I found a Smart ForFour for my Dad.... 74 years old and been insured with Saga for the past 10 years or so..... "Oh no, sorry Sir, we can't insure the Smart cars because they are designed to fall apart if they are in an accident" !!!!!!! Post Office insured him fully comp with breakdown etc for £210

Another vote for RH here - now we've got two classics, our Moggie and a 1275 Midget, I thought it would be better to have them both on the same policy, which RH have done this month for £110 for both - I think the Moggie portion of that premium is £54, fully comp, agreed value, unlimited mileage, two drivers, breakdown cover, - excellent price and nice folk to deal with too.

Perhaps the club should consider changing it's insurers in the interests of its members. I did raise this with them when I was on the committee.

erhaps the club should consider changing it's insurers in the interests of its members. I did raise this with them when I was on the committee.
Many many people have raised this issue to committe over the years (including myself). In those years, the justification to change was not big enough. In the days of AON pre-FJ, their reputation was spotless and the club benefitted from a large payback - enough to make a big difference on club membership fees.
Ray Newell stated (immediately after the FJ takeover of AON) that the situation is being closely monitored - they do not accept the club insurance scheme suffering due to this. If members have problems with the club scheme under FJ they should get in touch with committee ASAP.
If the club scheme changes in future I have no doubt that member recommendations will carry a lot of weight - the club has always intended the club insurance scheme must have an excellent reputation.
