hello all, this is my first post on here, i have owned my pickup since my grandad handed it down to me when i was 15, now neary 25 yers later i have decided to return it to the road, it has been stood for many years, it has had lots of work done to it and is now in the paint shop. my first question, i am sure ther will be many :-? is where can i find the right paint codes, it is a 1969 pick up and i would like to choose a colour that was original for the year, thankyou in advance, Steve

Welcome to the Forum. Pictures of your pickup will be very welcome. I think the paint code is contained in the chassis number ? If you post up the details of that (hide the numerical part) then I'm sure someone will soon work out the paint code for you.
Also - if you look at the Bodywork section - the first thread (a 'sticky' ) is all about Colours !

Thank you. the chassis number starts of M/A2S3, and its a G reg 1969. as long as I can rember it has been white but this was not the original colour, it was sprayed years long before I had it, I dont think the pick ups where available in white ?? Regards, Steve

MA2S3 is not a pick up - It is for a 2 door saloon with a 948 engine :-( A 69 pick up should start MAU5M. Colour was not noted on chassis number for cars after 1958.....

Hmm! I wonder what the history of this is then, could it be a saloon that was modified into a pick up.... Here are some pictures of the pick up being transported off to the paint shop for some panel work and respraying<br>Image<br><br>Image<br>

I guess it is possible for it to be a converted saloon although pick ups run a complete separate chassis. We'll need the LCV specialists to come on to confirm differences between saloons and pick ups though as they're not normal area....

Check that the chassis is separate first, it should consist of two box sections running the full length of the vehicle.

I've double checked on Alexander the meerkat, its definatly a chassis no for a 2dr 948cc (which would not tally with 1969 as the 948 was discontinued in 1964)

http://potteries.mmoc.org.uk/Identify.htm by our own Cam is an excellent resource

the pick up has 4 door front doors
also has a saloon bonnet , but that may have been changed

the only thing at the moment is to check it has a seperate chassis as Les says

I have checked the underneath and it has a seperate chassis a bit like a landrover :-? so it would appear its a pick up chassis with the front half of a saloon fitted, this has been in the familly for about 30 years so it must of been modified back in the 70's. No chance of winning the concours event then :D :D , Its still my first ever car that I learned to drive in and I want to get it back on the road in a original looking style. It was last driven by me in 1991. Glad to hear there are some other enthusiasts living locally, thank you for the offer WPR678B, I may well take you up on that offer when it comes to identifying soem of the details.

That sounds correct for a pickup.

The mystery is the Chassis number though :-?

Bulkhead replacement?

Where did you find the chassis number?

Hi Steve and welcome to the forum! :D

Your pickup looks fab and it's lovely to see it getting restored.

As far as its origin goes, my suspicions are along the same lines as Onne's. But as aupickup says, the pickups (and vans) had the same doors as the four-door saloon, which are narrower than the doors fitted to the two-door saloons. So one way of helping to sort out what has happened would be for you to measure the width of the doors and post on here, and then someone will be able to tell you whether they are 4-door or 2-door width.

I think, and les or aupickup will correct me if I am wrong, that pickups were the same as vans, in that you could specify whatever colour you wanted, or have them delivered in primer if you wanted to do a special paint job yourself. This was so that firms could get them done out in their own livery. Pickups could have the standard cargo area or they could be delivered as "chassis cabs", with no back on, so that the firm could fit their own specialised cargo area if need be.

Keep us posted! :D

Thank you all for all this info, there is so much knowledge on here, I took the chassis number from a plate under the bonnet on the drivers side, I am wondering if this is a saloon that was fitted on to the pick up chassis, I dont think it ever had the pick up tail gate and sides, as a child I can only remember it as a flat bed which my grandad used to transport bikes. I will keep posting pictures as I progress, Thanks again, Steve

they look like 4 door doors because it looks ike the lock is integral with the handle

if this can be confirmed then it would be a 4 door version if it was a saloon front
also the front cab area of the saloons is different from the vans and pick ups in the engine bay floors

Still wouldn't explain the 2 door chassis number though, unless you know what has happened. Clearly pick up sized doors due to the lack of overhang behind the "bulge"....

The difference in floor should be easy to spot as well, seeing than LCVs have flat floors, unlike the Saloon derivatives.
