Morris Minor Owners Club

I,ve sourced a clutch kit for a Midget now but the seller tells me the overall depth of the clutch cover is 50mm from face that bolts to flywheel to face that the release bearing pushes against, measuring an old minor cover I have in stock the Minor one appears to be 70mm.
Will the clutch mechanism take up 20mm of movement?
As ever any help appeciated before I spend my conkers!!

No.
I put a midget engine onto a minor box with a new midget clutch on it.
The mechanism did not reach, hence I had no way to actuate the clutch.

Now weather the extra reach is gained by way of a thicker release bearing or a different shape fork I don't know.
I simply fitted the Minor clutch on a modded Minor flywheel instead. It had no problems with the power.

Just had a thought... mine was mated to a 1098 box. I believe some earlier Minor boxes may be different still.

The spridget ones have a different fork. I did have a spare but I cut it up and modified it to go into a 5spd

Maybe the midget has a deeper release bearing?

Maybe the clutch you are being offered is for a 1500 (Triumph engined) Midget ? I'm sure others have said the Midget engine/clutch is a straight fit.

The guy says the clutch is the right one its 6 1/2 inch dia. driven plate with a corespondingly small cover plate, I wonder how much a minor clutch fork will actually operate over maybe they are near the end of their throw when fitted.

A week or so ago - there were pics on here of a thicker carbon thrust bearing. Can't remember the thread - but maybe if you search - or someone with a working memory can find it for you ?
