Hi All,

I have today managed to distroy the little threaded rods (stud bits) that hold the Hockey Sticks onto the car. When removing the nuts I managed to snap off 3 of the 6 studs and bent 2 of them. The 6th was missing before I got involved!!

I've had a look at the main suppliers and it's around £30 for replacement hockey sticks. With this in mind, I've gone back to the Hockey sticks and have manged to withdraw the studed bit, and was considering replacing the studed rod with a new piece, or a small bolt that I could fix through from the inside.

Does anyone know what size the rod would be? what thread would be required, or has anyone else changed the rod and nut system to a tiny bolt?

Any advice would be gratefully recieved!

I think its 2BA but the ally is so soft you can almost force anything in tight enough of the right diameter - Been there.... Done that

These imperial nuts and bolts confuse me!!

Yes the thread is 2ba. I would suggest getting some 2ba screws and cutting the heads off at the right length to make new studs. this thread is/was used in the electrical business so an electrical wholesaler or preferably a small electrical shop might help.
ps: put the screws in first before cutting to length. You may find the threads in the hockey stick have worn, in which case you will have to tap out to the next size up ( probably metric)
The studs stick out about an inch.

Use 5mm screws - easily obtainable or, if the bolts have sheared and you're really skilled, drill and tap for 5mm. My neighbour did this and carried out a really excellent job for me

Using bolts - v difficult to line them up. Best by far to make studs as suggested from screws - then cut their heads off!

If you are going to cut the heads off screws put a nut or 2 on before you start.
Then when you have cut the head off remove the nut over the cut.
This helps tidy up the cut thread otherwise it can be almost impossible to get a nut started on the cut section.

Grip the screw by the head and not the thread when you are cutting it.
