:o I have to put some thick carpet underlay under my carpets for soundproofing, the present bolts will be too short to blot the seats down I will need to get some longer ones, so can anyone tell me what size the bolts are .

As they are non standard bolts it's tricky to say what size you need :-? Just measure how deep your underlay is to find the length you need then buy some bolts the same width as the current ones but longer

I appreciate what your saying perhaps I didn't explain properly, what I want to know is the thread type / size as I don't want to put any bolt in that would cross thread the bracket that's on the floor.

Can't you get the thread type / size from the current bolts? (not meaning to appear awkward but I'm assuming you have the original bolts)

:-? Yes, what I will do is take one to the local hardware shop and see if he can identify / supply me with some. I'm not really up to thread sizes and types etc. Im only just coming to terms with whitworth and bsf etc.

I think they are 5/16" BSF.

You'll be lucky to find a hardware shop that still stocks BSF. :-?

You should NOT bolt the seats down through thick carpet - cut the carpet and underlay so it fits around the seat frame. The frame needs to be solidly fixed to the floorpan - not wobbling about on top of thick carpet!

I doubt if the carpet is inches thick and its just a case of having a long enough bolt to start the thread then tighten it down. The correct bolts are available , so if you wish to PM me I can help you out.
If you are seriously worried about seat safety guy's,you should add rear location points to stop the seat lifting under heavy braking or a crash. They really are dangerous, and yes I have seen evidence of injury due to this crazy design.

The Mini uses a 'sprung clip' to secure the seat rear frame. Could be adapted for Minor use. But with seat belts fitted - it really shouldn't be a problem - although my MOT man used to complain about my 'adjustable' seat every year - so now I fit an old fixed seat - and do up the hinge bolts REALLY tight so it can't swing up!
