OK time to reveal my biggest project to be!! a 57 ex Traveller pick-up powered by Cossie!
Major headache Maltese regulations!
you cannot alter too much the chassis as it be a kit car and have to pay new registration and be approved by many engineers!
Plan:- build a stronger chassis based on the original chassis but adding strength in certain areas!
Suspension:- no idea what to use yet! any help?
Thanks

Cossie YB I take it? You going to be running it standard or up the boost? What gearbox you going to use?

YB yes for now standard, actually there is a stage one chip in it! we'll see how's the power then modify if needed but we don't have many straight roads over here! geabrox still undecided I wish to keep the original cossie item but would consider shorter but still strong gearboxes

Some of this no longer applies having just read your last post, mine did not post for a few attempts
Frank, do you need a Cossie, std they are around 200bhp which is easily achievable with the 'lighter' black top Zetec or even lighter Duratec.
Going Cossie power will require the T5 box from a rwd only Cossie which is a' huge' heavy unit that will require the repositioning of the steering rack.Axle wise, the Escort MK11 axle can be made to handle 300bhp, but at some cost, so a Volve 340 or narrowed Yank axle could be an alternative
You can build a new chassis from the X member forward and fit some aftermarket front suspension, and the rear will require some beefing up too, with some good axle location.
Not sure how far you can go with your regulations.A form of cage could be built into the car to tie the key areas together.

I assume you mean Volvo 240 as the 340 has a De Dion unit. Saying that a 340 would be easy to narrow, mount of existing Minor springs and then the Sierra IRS diff used.
Some 740/760 Volvos have LSD so another choice if narrowing a conventional axle is considered.

the only reason I went Cossie is that I got one with all ancillaries gearbox etc for a bagrain price! I am aware of the weight issue and indeed we r going to fit a roll cage as you say diff will be from an Escort, had one lying around in the garage! suspension and steering is the major headache now!

loved my 440 Turbo - the power was way beyond the handling (even with the sportspack suspension) so it would slide like it was on an ice rink if the roads were greasy

(not that sliding a eurobox is cool or clever, but oversteering a FWD eurobox round the bigger roundaboutsin Warwickshire was amusing at the time - the joys of power off oversteer when you .... oops off topic

)
