Hello all,

I was just wondering how many types of wing mirrors are out there and which ones in your opinion are the best to buy.

I've always found the door mounted ones easier to set up, I can't get Rosies passenger side one aligned to show anything other than the kerb

I couldn't see either (mine used to be mounted on the wing) I bought some and mounted them on the stainless triangle on the quarter light. They do not interfer with it's functioning and can be adjusted easily. They are round and have slightly curved arms. They are handed and the supplier told me to swop them over(i.e. use driver's for passenger side) This makes them even more adjustable. PM me if you want to know spplier.

My last Minor used to have that type, they were much better although some part of me quite enjoys having wing mirrors on the wings even if I can't get one to work

I've always used wing mirrors with round convex glass on adjustable stems and never had any problem with seeing things.

The nearside wing mirror sort of works on mine, the offside one not at all. It looks like a design flaw, the mirrors are mounted too far forward on the curve of the wing, if they were back an inch or so they'd be a lot more useful. Door mirrors would definitely be favourite but in a weird way I'm quite enjoying re-learning the long lost art (in a car, anyway) of looking over my right shoulder when manoeuvering. Do that all the time on the mo'bike but it's too easy to rely on door mirrors on modern cars.

Mine are clip-ons, screwed on to the front of the window of each door. You get a wider field of vision from a mirror closer to your eye, which is important to me, driving a van Out of the packet they worked a bit loose initially, but I took them apart and reassembled them nice and snugly with some copper slip on the threads of the adjusty bits, and they are now completely solid and reliable. The chrome is clearly not going to last that long but what can you expect from modern chrome

I'm quite attracted to the idea of the ones which screw on to the front lower corner of the quarterlights: but it does mean a bit of drilling, and I gather that they can interfere with the opening of the quarterlights, which doesn't sound ideal. Can't be bothered, really, now that my clip-on ones are working so well.

I fancy some clip-on ones to complement the ones on my wings (especially the one on the passenger side - there's a ruddy great bonnet hump in the way of me being able to see it..)

When you fit them, block up the gap around the door window - a piece of newspaper draped over the gap will do it. you really don't want to drop the little plastic washer down the door slot

Ah! Gotcha Yeah - took me about half an hour to fish mine out using blu-tack on the end of a piece of bamboo

I found a substitute! At least I always know where there's a spare.
