Can anyone please tell me the number stamped on a 1098 laygear, and/or the numbers on various early 3 syncro mini laygears. I know they are not interchangeable! Thanks.

In what way different - length, or just number of teeth ?
The 1098 laygear appears to be 10G150 http://www.morrisminorspares.net/shop_item.php?ID=1636
Dunno if that number would be marked on the gear ?

Thanks for replies, I now have the info I need. the mini numbers will be of no interest here, but the minor number is 22g83.

I am interested in the Mini numbers! And are the Laygears different length - or just gear teeth number difference ?
Interesting Somerford Mini section on gearboxes etc - http://www.somerford-mini.co.uk/pdfs/Ca ... onents.pdf
According to that - the 22G83 laygear is from an Austin/Morris 1100/1300 box. Which may be the same as a Minor 1098 box !

Bm I typed out a lengthy post about these numbers, when I clicked submit, it went pear shaped! Will do it again when I calm down!

Just looked at the site you posted and the numbers there confirm the ones I have. There is one addition for your information. and that is laygear 22g1100 was a later version of 22g232, but still a 'B' type gear.( the 'B' type started end of '64) The 22g231 (850&998)has the same number of teeth throughout as the minor 22g83, difference may be in the bearings or angle of teeth perhaps.
