The next stage....

seeing as the underside will soon be finished, Im unsure as to what to move onto next. Do I simply upright the car, get it up to working height on some blocks and get to work stripping and prepping it for paint? Or do I restore the running gear first and get a rolling chassis....then do spraying prep?
Oh and Im unsure what to use as a base coat for the body as Im doing a bare metal respray with cellulose......Etch primer or Zinc rich then an isolater coat?

For the respray, if bare metal then go with a couple of coats of etch followed by three coats of high build primer (APS1) then your choice of colour.
I'd personally finish all of the running gear before any paintwork.
Always be careful with using too much zinc rich paint as the further coats can react against it which can lead to peeling.

Yep - get it rolling first! Then do the engine bay. Then finally paint the outerskin! Less risk later of damaging the paintwork while fitting engine/box, suspension etc.

Try your nearest trade automotive paintstore, they should be able to supply you with what you need.

While you are out shopping grab a couple tins of black in an aerosol. Use this to dust the last coat of high build and give a guide when flatting for the top coats.

Cheers Rod, Ill do that!

Update......well I got the 3 coats of chassis black on the underside, and have plastered on the first coat of waxoyl. So Im letting that dry and Ill get the second one on tomorrow.
Meanwhile I stripped and zinc primed the back axle!

Pics to follow....camera wont talk to the computer at the moment!

Noooooooo, please don't put any more waxoyl on it will contaminate the steel where bare or even the celly paint. When you come to spray the car you will get wax spots all over it. Waxoyl is the very last stage of a build.
You will need to panel wipe all areas that may have been contaminated, every nook and cranny,as it will blow out of everywhere when you primer the car especially when warm.
Sorry to seem dramatic :o :-?

Wow chill out Jonathon!! Ive only hand painted the underside of the car ie floor pans, chassis legs etc with waxoyl underseal. Ive purposefully left the outer sills free of waxoyl for the time being.

There is None on any of the areas to be sprayed with celly. Ive also left the wheelarches waxoyl free.

Calmed down yet?

Sorry YG it was the 'and have plastered on the first coat of waxoyl' that worried me. I'm cool now, nice dark room, and funny jacket that ties up at the back :D
