8cwt Van front suspension

Did they uprate the front torsion bars on these vans? although I,ve never seen it mentioned anywhere, but they fitted 8 leaf springs at the rear plus bigger diameter steering arms, but then left the front spring rate alone? makes me wonder as my present van seems a bit harder than I recall my other one being.

No - not stiffer at the front. I guess the extra weight was expected to be in the load carrying space at the rear !

I though all vans had uprated torsion bars?

No - never heard of ANY uprated bars from BMC - until Marina came along. W1500 and R 1.5 had same bars too.

You sure, I thought the saloons were about 15mm and the vans 18mm. :o :D

torsion bars were the same on 8cwt vans

also the rear leafs of the spring were a little thicker than the 6 cwt

and bigger steering arms

these were the only mods

As well as the much better 4.5 " wide wheels of course!

Did they come in two types as standard on these vans ??? Or is one of them an aftermarket wheel ??

Assembled opposite way round - so one has greater offset than the other.
