Hello

Iam looking into different engines for my minor.

Currently have the standard 10ma 1098 engine.

I know the 1275 will quite happily take its place but-

What are the differences between the ma 1098 and the mg version the 10cc engine.

Bigger bearings I believe....

The 10cc has bigger main bearings - same size as 1275 and is therefore a lot stronger! It's still a long stroke engine - but it can be revved with a little more safety than a normal 1098 engine. However - you should still consider 6000 to be safe max - with 7000 'in the gears'. Still not as good as a 1275 engine !

Thanks for your speedy replies

The ma engine is single carb (su hs2 1.25")

Does the mg version also have a single above carb or twin.

All Spridget engines were twin carb ! Only the last of the line (before ghastly Triumph engine was fitted) were 10cc. It was to allow the use of that engine as a basis for Formula 3 power units ! All spridget 1098 engines should have the 295 head - although possibly some had the v similar 206 head.

Yes, as stated above the 10CC has bigger bearings, it would have also had a 12g295 head when it left the factory but who knows what one would have now!

I believe all 1098 midgets engines were 10CC but I may be wrong

BMC - you seem to have forgotten about the 1275 engines in your statment ;)

Of course! Silly me ! 1275 engines were of course fitted for quite a while before horrible Triumph engine. Thanks Matt. I think all 1098 Spridget engines had the 295 (or maybe 206 head) - but not all were 10CC. Read all about it here - beware - it's long! http://www.mgcars.org.uk/mgccy/pdf/enginehist.pdf
