Hello dunketh,

the mind boggles, exactly what did he think he was going to do welding the crown wheel to the pinion, no wonder he strained the drive line.
Judging by the comments, not a forum I would like to use.

The only question is... did he do this as a wind-up, or did he make out he had to save face when it finally dawned on him what he had done wrong?? :lol:

I think he was a little outside of the recommended tolerances when he set the pinion depth and its causing a binding inflection seizure issue. This most likely resulted from that bad batch of cast dial indicators.

Buy a new dial indicator and really pay attention when you set the depth and backlash.
