Clutch siezed after winter lay up - what to do?

Hi all,
After a long winter lay up I decided to get the moggy 1000 out for a pre-mot last weekend and I couldn't engage the clutch. The pedal moved freely, but I had a grating noise for every gear I tried to selected.
Only when I ran the car off down the hill could I get any gears. To stop, I had to knock it out of gear. Everything was working fine when it was put away.
Could the clutch plate be stuck to the flywheel?, if so, what's the best solution to free it off? Thanks, Andy

we had a thread on this the other day I,m sure someone will come up with it but it does sound like it is just stuck providing the cars brakes are good you should warm the engine first then put it in 1st with hand brake off start the car on your drive or even on the street if it is quiet it should move off hit the brakes a couple of times and it should free you have to be confident about it if not let someone else do it you can easily take it out of gear if you need to if it doesn,t free then just apply brakes you may have to apply brakes quite hard it will go with a bit of a bang as it comes off good luck if you put your home town someone may live near you who can help

Run the engine up to full heat for a good 30 minutes - switch off, and let the heat soak through. It should come away easily. In fact - you may find now on going back to the car - that it has already released itself!

Thanks for all your responses - I'll give it a go over the weekend.
