i am building a minor convertible kit , the hood mounting holes were already drilled , the hood frame is about 2 inches forward of the w/screen , i notice that when folded back the frame is in front of where the rear screen would have been , splitting the rear shelf . any ideas

Welcome aboard. I know nothing of Minor convertibles, but I'm sure someone who does know will be along in a minute. You say the holes were already drilled - but from your description of the problem - it does sound as though they have been drilled in the wrong place !

Do you have all of the hood or just working with the frame? The frame does fall within the shelf. Also a frame without any material on it will reach beyond the windscreen. That is what keeps the material taught. Easy enough to measure the location of the bracket on another convertible. I can't quite reach mine in short order, hopefully someone will soon.

Does this mean you are creating a convertible from a saloon as you mention the word kit.

Ahh - I see - if it's just the bare frame with no cover fitted then it could well travel beyond the screen etc. Fit the cover!

it is a chop top minor , so you think the frame may be ok , both frame and canvas hood have never been fitted , but are approx 10 years old at least .

tried the hood frame again , it will almost push back far enough without the hood on , so looking more promising

Do you have the 'floating' stretcher with the frame. This is a seperate piece of frame that is allowed to move in order to stretch the rear of the hood.

It looks the same as the stretchers that are linked in the main hood frame, but this piece moves independantly, I'll try and find a pic

hi all , some friends were helping me on thurs. night , it turned out the angle of the bent hinge bar of the hood is a few degrees out , when its fixed the frame should come back into position, looking more promising
