Hi

I'm fast approaching the time when I will need to remove the original heatshield panel and asbestos pad. Needless to say the panel has been rusting away merrily but is still held to the passenger floor with completely rusted up bolts.

Clearly I'll wear suitable masks etc, when removing this but how/where should I dispose of the asbestos pad?

Council tip should take it but you need to put it immediately into a sealed poly bag to stop the risk of any fibres breaking free and killing the whole town

For the tiny quantity involved- just soak it in water and wrap it up in double poly bags - and bury it in your black bin ! If you get the Cooncil involved- it will turn into an Environmental nightmare - radius of 5 miles will be evacuated, area will be declared derelict and uninhabitable for 10 years and the Army will be called in to do a Gruinard style 'clean up'.

Ha ha, very good. Incidentally spent a lovely summer at Gairloch a few years ago. Stopped at Gruinard Bay for lunch with the island in the distance, was promptly bitten by a nasty wee mosquito - which convinced me I've been infected with anthrax ever since.

I would just ignore the heat shield and let it disintegrate in its own time. The extra heat through the floor will help to keep your passenger's feet warm.

Good grief if they did that Knebworth would become out of bounds.

My Dad had British Gas to install a new boiler and the existing flue went up through the bungalow roof and above the ceiling was an asbestos panel which surrounded the flue pipe (about 2 ft sqaure)
British Gas wouldn't touch it, and enlisted a company to remove it and then carry out 'air contamination' tests ------£1800!!!!!!!
Well, I removed it, all 6 screws (it was split around the pipe) had a good hoover up and disposed of it in black sacks.
There was no 'dust' as such, I just used common sense in its removal.
Asbestos removal is big money buisness.

After all these years, I surprized anyone still has one one their car. With hindsight it should have been removed as soon as the buyer got the car home. No not for the hazadous material, because the insulator traps moisture and it is the first place the floor rusts through.
