Door catch on traveller continued + rubber door seals

Hi,

Many thanks to those who got back to me on the door catch query. I have had a good look and can see from signs of wear that at one time the door did catch behind the chrome catch mechanism but however much I adjust it and however hard I push the door closed it won't now. Both doors are the same and are closing on the little spring loaded safety catch. The door seems to be fitting well at the top but there is quite a gap at the bottom. Is this normal, do I need new doors, can I adjust them or is it likely to be the rubber seal that is at fault? The ruuber seal is quite firm and unweilding - is this normal? I'm not sure if its original, it has a fabric type side facing the inside of the car and a black rubber "sausage" facing outwards. Has anyone tried the rubber door seal kits you can get from ebay?

Thanks for any info.

Best wishes

William

It sounds like you have standard (original) type of seals fitted which are fine. he problem, as you suggest is the door not fitting correctly. It sounds as though it is twisted out at the bottom. If this is just down to poor adjustment then the bottom hinge can be loosened of and the bottom of the door pushed in to make it sit "square" in the frame. Other possibilities are worn hinge pins, which can be changed, which will show as excessive play when you grab hold of the door and wiggle it or worse case it will be corrosion at the base of the A pillar. This is obvious though as the whole bottom of the A pillar will be moving if you put pressure on it....

The black rubber door seal kits have the advantage that they just push on the surround and don't require all the little clips. I have them on both my cars for several years and have not had any problems. Also they don't get tatty when the material gets frayed. I expect that they are available from most Minor retailers
