Going to be painting the brake drums and related items soon. Whats the best stuff to use for the drums themselves?

I'm not sure what temperatures the drums reach under heavy braking but to be on the safe side I'd use VHT (very high temperature paint) easy to find, can get it at my local motor factors.

I have just used normal Hammerite smooth paint. Been on there for ages and hasn't peeled or cracked etc. Cheap too

Hammerite smooth - but on my Mini it did blister and burn, and that was the rear drums !

Strange. I know it isn't suppose to be for high temp applications but it does seem to have worked well for me. Had it on for about 6 months or so. Maybe I use the brakes less than I thought

The Mini did a lot of hard accelerating - and braking!

meh, Ill get a tin of black enamel. I can get it dirt cheap from the Agri merchants anyway and I need a shed load to do all the running gear and suspension!

Don't use ordinary black agri enamel, it will burn off! Hammerite has a higher temperature capability and sticks lovely to rusty cast iron!

Didn't realize Hammerite had that property, does anybody know what temperatures it can with stand before it lets go?

Hammerite state -20 to +150 c, so plenty of scope for it burning off in theory, but seems to work fine for people I've seen use it!
I'd be more worried about the -20 bit at the moment!
