Tachometer and rev limit (1275 Ital)

Just wondering if anyone knows the rev limit of the 1275 Ital engine? Also does anyone know where the best place to get a tachometer for this engine from? (preferably second hand/original stock)

Hello! hope the car is getting better...porr thing. by the way, i found a rad surround, very very late reply but it's here if you wanted it!
regards to your question...depends on the engine! if it has been modified with better head/cam/rockers/carb then taking it to 6000 is very easy(not continually obviously!!) if it is standard(bar the twin SU's you have) then i would say around 5500 is most comfortable but will tail off. This is just my own experience, the actuals i am sure are different!
regards to tacho...where would you mount it? you can get nice pod mounted ones but not usually old school looking. the best ones i've seen are the 80mm smiths ones that are usually seen in minis. mmm...

I am in the process of repainting the rad and replacing it. The leccy fan is shagged so will need a replacement. I have had some help from an old guy at work who has worked on classics all his life in knocking out the front end. Going to check the squareness of the chassis this weekend (weather permitting). It's looking much better but still has a way to go. I am slowly working out all the peripherals and what has been used so will take it easy until I am sure, thanks for the reply though and thanks for the offer of the surround, the deseaming on the red thing means replacement would have been longwinded. How is the engine switch going?

Do you happen to know how far back the gauge goes from the front face? (thinking of trying to mount it in the drivers side glovebox door (or do you reckon it'd look naff?))

hey, glad to see it's moving on with the car. mine has been sat out teh back of my house since the start of Jan, poor thing! the engine swap is starting next week, i have 11 days from the 12th to get it done! good luck with that one Callum!
i would say the gauge would come around 2" back from the bezel, slight guesstimate. obviously depends what gauge you get! Just realised yours is early gold speedo so *shouldnt* have the voltage stabiliser.
dad has his gauges in the drivers glove box, looks pretty nifty. depends how you do it though. he cut a piece of mdf in teh shape of the door, and put the chrome trim around that. if you just cut the door that is already there, then it may be worth measuring the largest part of the raised area to see how big a rev counter you could put in. fairly common mod, and no, it doesnt look naff!

I wouldn't advise revving a 1275 beyond 6000 for any length of time - although 7000 may be possible for short bursts - if you have strong enough valve springs and a better camshaft fitted.
