Hi Grandad may be worth asking one of the specialists for the definative answer.
VINTAGE WIRELESS COMPANY (Manchester) Ltd, 174 Cross Street, Sale, Ches., M33 7AQ (0161-973 0438) Website:
www.vintagewireless.co.uk Domestic radios from 1930s to 1960s plus period car radio sales and restoration.
I think that the switch of is only for FM radio anyway and not AM but it looks like its a way off, have a read of this.

Can you still get Luxemburg and the Home Service on it?

No good asking me as my Radio knowledge is poor to say the least, but Luxemburg is on my HMV Portable's list of stations but I would have to check if it works but not at the moment as the batteries have gone flat

Only TV is changing to digital, not radio. Personally I think the possibility of FM radio being shut off is a long way off.

hi,
My understanding is that the DAB radio is causing problems - the encoding used is no longer "state of the art"and that other countries are using later versions already.
The FM radio will be with us some time yet.
I have to admit that I actually like driving to work listening to Radio 7 - the programs are the "right" age...
Navy lark, Goon show, Hancock's Half-hour*, Round the Horne...
* which is why I fell about laughing at the cinema with the trailer for "Hancock - saviour of the World"....
