does anyone know where i could get the headlining material on a 53 side valve [the type in a number of stiff pieces] also the rivets that hold the two pieces that make up the side pieces are rusty and have stained the covering also what are the backings made of as the bits that go around and under the rear screen are in a bad way from water damage and will have to be made again .OR does anyone make them new
thanks Ian
Image

Image
The last time I checked with Newton Commercial the rexin head lining was unavailable. The section below the rear window was available as a two piece section from another source. I will PM you a contact no.

I sourced a complete set from Denmark through contacts in Holland...

Not cheap at all though, about 250 pounds at the time...-

Hello there,

I hope I'm not crashing this tread but it's related.
Mike, if you could post the supplier of this headliner material I would be happy as my 51 MM has the same problem going on. I know it's a bit premature to look for it as I'm not even close to doing anything with it yet, but it would be nice to line up a supplier in the interim. Thanks!

Apart from one tiny scratch, mine is in perfect condition.

If anyone wants to come and take measurements or even borrow it for copying then I'd be happy to help. I'd guess that most would want the shape of the rear section?

I am informed that Segal Motor Trimmings, Salford, Manchester, tel 0161 834 7994, should be able to help with headlinings.
If anyone contacts them please let me know the outcome.

It might also still be worth trying http://www.fjratchford.co.uk/shades.asp?product_id=6 for comparison.

Im planning to cover the one in the traveller, its the same kind of rexine on hardboard. I reckon its similar to roller blind materail as you can get this in lots of shades and thickness. Our Membership Secretary's sister works in a blind manufacturers and is going to check it out for me. Will let you know.

As for the one in the lowlight, I think its called west of england cloth? Not certain of this though. Believe it or not I covered mine with an unused wool blanket that Mum got for a wedding present in 1970! and spray adhesive. I think it looks fine. Who looks up anyway

All I can say is that the lining in OJO is certainly not Rexine.

The headlining in the lowlight MMs was a soft cloth material, I believe the same as was used in the Morris 8 and probably a lot of other cers.
The later MMs had a hardboard headlining in 3 strips, one down each side and a wide centre panel. It was covered in a Rexin? type of material. There was also a panel under the rear window.

My 1950 lowlight is the 3 sections, plus one for below the rear window. If the base is in good nick, It's not too hard to recover. I did mine in cream leathercloth over a thin foam.

Hi Pete
did you remove old material and did you have to glue the spong to to the backing and then the material to the sponge

I just left the old material (was firmly attached) and glued sponge on, then the leathercloth. I cant recall if I glued the leathercloth on though, as when it was pulled tight and stapled it seemed fine (did this nearly 30 years ago). Underneath the rear window wasn't wholly satisfactory as the original backing wasn't the best.
