hello everyone I have just signed up seems like a nice forum

To get to the point I have heard alot of info about the morris marina brake disc fitting on etc and I would just like to know, whats the simplest way to convert, The brake disc witch will fit best etc, I mean if its of a marina or some old style vuaxhall I can get hold of them, Its just finding the ones witch will fit and knowing how to go about connecting the brake hoses etc.

There's a few disk brake conversions out there, there's a Marina one (I've got that, and can give you a few comments on it as a Private Message, if you like), there's a Ford one (JLH do, which seemed very effective when I drove Nikki's minor, but that was a while ago).

There's another one around as well, that was a doable at home one, iirc. But I've no idea where the post about that one went, or about it's longevity and such.

the trouble as I seem to remeber with this converstion is that you can not fit the standard minor wheels after you have done it.. so i would recommend reading the entire thread before going down that route.

I went down the marina route last time and am going to do it again. there are plenty of moggy specialists offering a version based on escort / sierra.

Not wishing to advertise, if you search for "morris minor ford discs" in google the first page contains the three companies I know about that offer this conversion.

i did the marina conversion. i used a setup off a marina van which had the 4.5" stud pattern that i needed

i thought that it was an excellent conversion, very straight forward. just need a 3/8" drill and to buy a couple spacers from charlie wares morris minor centre.

i was confused by the spacers though. they slid over the stub axle and the bearing was meant to slide over the collar on the spacer. well the bearing fitted the axle and not the spacer (i used the recommended bearings) so i ended up cutting the collar off so that the bearing could slide on and i didnt think that they intended that at all. its all good and working now.

the spacers are necessary because otherwise the outer bearing will touch the taper on the axle and prevent the hub from being tightened properly.

but if you do it all proper then its a very good conversion, dont need a machine shop or anything like that at all.

I made up my own ford based disc brakes but I was really unhappy about using the minor hubs so I splashed out £200 plus on the esm conversion hubs. If you go out and buy a modern brake upgrade for an old ford all you get to fit the caliper is a plate steel adapter bracket so I just did the same for the minor. It works just as well as the owen burton kit with the same calipers I bought for another minor.
