Sticking choke

Post by linearaudio »

Choke has been sticking on recently. Didn't realise at first, lumpy running, high fuel consumption didn't ring any alarm bells, then realised the choke felt light as you pulled it out, like it wasn't doing anything. Finally got round to opening the bonnet, and hey presto, the trumpety bit of the air filter had dropped down so it was rubbing on the choke tube, holding it down against the spring! Seems like a problem waiting to recur, due to the effect of gravity & vibration. Must get round to putting the hif38 on, that will stop its little game! Anyone else had that happen??

The trumpet usually falls off - then it's not a problem!

There should be a flat rubber ring between the air filter and carb trumpet. That helps it stay in place otherwise it can move round with vibration.

Yes - it should be gathering hot air to prevent carb icing!

Pointing down to draw in warm air, and hold choke permanently open to counter the cold weather
