Engine running...some carb questions

1969 Morris Minor with 1098 engine and original SU carb

I've got the engine running today and took it for a short drive down the farm road. All appears well. Thank you to all who have helped me with this.

I need to do a bit of fine adjustment on the timing, and admittedly, I needed to do a bodge job with the carb linkage to drive the car. Somewhere, in the black hole of my garage, I've lost two things...

I find myself missing two bits (that I know I had) and I'm not sure where to locate the specific items.

1) There is a specialised bolt with a small hole in it that, when tightened, receives the choke cable. This bolt fits into the carb linkage.

2) There also is a spring that pulls the throttle cable closed.

I'm missing both of these bits. Does anyone have a spare of each?

Sorry...forgot to add...

I picked up the bits I needed to renew the oil filter canister housing (metal plate and O-ring)-sorted! No more leaks.

Matt, you'll get a spring easy enough from your local supplier but the cable clamp might be more difficult. Get back to me if you get stuck - I think I have one somewhere but will need to dig around a bit in the garage to find it...

How did you manage to drive it without the return spring and as mentioned there are easy to get and only a couple of pounds.

Kevin-
I used one from a pack of springs I bought from Halfords some time ago...it didn't work brilliantly. I found myself lifting the throttle pedal with my toe a bit.
Rich-
If you have one, I'd be most pleased to buy it from you.

I made myself look one last time...there, in a ziploc bag marked "carb" was the bolt...I've got it. No spring however, but I see that DSN classics has a throttle return spring for 2.32.

Thank you.

Well, I do need the gremlins to stop hiding bits on me in the garage!

I swear, I spend 10% of my time looking for things I had just a short while ago.

Mat if you are in a hurry the missing bits are fitted to most if not all su carbs so if you can get down the scrap yard you should be able to find them on a mini.

and i agree with Kevin you are lucky to spend only 10% of your time looking!

Emergency cable grip can be made from the internals of an electrical 'choc blok' connector. Worth remembering if stuck on the road.

The last place to look for carburettor parts- in the bag marked "carb"!!
Do it all the time myself, my excuse is age! What BMC says is worth stowing in the back of your head- old choc-block is a wonder fixer of many things, always keep some handy!

Well you didn't have to send them round mine!!! Just spent two hours looking for my hex keys in the dark of my garage - damn it, I know they there somewhere!!!! would be easy to find but some fool parked a poorly minor in there.
