I have just been reading Martin Wainwright's book, which has brought back many good memories of my first car. It was a black split screen 1956 MM - SGF 688. I just wondered is there any way to find out what happened to the car? Was it scrapped? How long did it remain on the road? Or is it still being driven? Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
Thank you

No trace on DVLA against either make or reg number so I suspect car was scrapped a while back....

Thank you. How did you find out the information so quickly? I guess I'll have to hope that it jogs someone's memory.

You can check the reg number against make of vehicle on the DVLA website. This came back as non existant, so I checked the reg number against the vehicle check database (vic) which would say if the reg number had been transferred to another vehicle - which it hadn't

I had no idea that the DVLA offered this service, but I guess it is a logical outcome from computerisation of car details. Presumably this works for cars still on the road or those taken off the road whilst the computerised system has been in operation. Hence the liklehood that my MM was scrapped some years ago. Shame!
Thanks again.

Yep, that just about sums it up - It is always remotely possible that it is locked up in a garage/barn somewhere and was off the road before SORN came into effect, hence no record on the computer - but it;s a long shot !!

You can tell a lot from the DVLA web services- if you ever see a Honda Accord driving around with reg no. WAM 672 then I want it back- it was William's original number!
