Rocker cover ?

Post by jononetoe »

Hi all, Have taken the Rocker cover of Engine (APHM 62072, on plate. 10MA-U-H 280947 on Engine) on the inside is Oily Sluge and all over valves and tappets, I have never come across this before can any one tell me what is wrong?
Sorry to sound so thick.
Thanks to last post on Spanner Sizes, Pinned up in Garage allready.
Cheers :-?

Hi Jon.Oily sludge, if it is black is probably lack of oil changes in the past leading to lots of crud build up in the oil.If it is more like Mayonaise it could be head gasket or short trips in the cold weather causing the problem with condensation build up.

Rocker cover

Hi, I reckon you are right, the oil on dip stick is clear but that could signify long standing ? Deffinatley not mayo (thats water, yes?) Crude is more like it suppose an oil change to be safe and clean all I can see.
Thanks Longdog.
P.S. Its not original Eng (Splitscreen Morris 1954) besides it has 1100 on Alu plate down side.

It is certainly a 1098 engine. Clean the sludge away - and make sure the breather pipes are all clear. Good hard run followed by oil and filter change while hot won't go wrong.

That's probably because it doesn't get cold enough for that to occur in Malta Frank.
You can't mistake it as it has the texture of mayonnaise and even a similar colour and normally seen as soon as you take the oil filler cap off generally caused by shorter runs in colder weather.

Nope - edible Mayonnaise is made from mxing vegetable oil and water until it emulsifies, the Mayo you find in an engine is exactly the same thing, except it's made with engine oil - and probably doesn't tase as nice!
