I have just got one of these to install in the sidevalve morrie. Small problem - no instructions
It is a "mobelec max transistor ignition" Has 4 wires comming out of it and a 3? way switch red wire, black wire, white wire and green wire the switch has the settings standard, middle(no name on it) and electronic
i am wanting to set up to be points assisted - that is using the points as the switch to fire the ignition (but through the unit)

From googling, it looks like red is power feed, black ground, green to coil +ve and I reckon white to distributor, though those two may be other way round. Fairly foolproof, I have the "Sparkrite" version, accidently connected it up wrong and it didn't mind. The centre position of the switch is off, a basic immobiliser function. I would go for it, it allows instant bypassing by that switch should it die. You will be able to open the plug gaps up to about 30 thou to make the most of the bigger spark, but will then notice the difference if you switch back to normal operation!!
Set it to conventional if you are worried, as that will bypass the electronics and replicate your existing setup. Then switch over when the engine is running, don't expect a sudden improvement in operation though, it's a bit more subtle than that!tortron wrote:Yes i should have mentioned the car is already negative earth (tho i dont know why, it doesnt have a radio or anything)

As an aside, I turned up an interesting lead by googling "DIY electronic ignition"- a chap explaining how to convert a 45 series distributor to total electronic using the guts of a Maestro/ Montego distributor! Might give it a go at some point! http://www.triumph-iw.co.uk/elecign.htm
