Sorry for the many questions today...last one, I promise (for the day, anyway).

I noticed this when I was installing the engine. Please look between the water pump and the cylinder head.

Does a hose go there? If so, is it a special type?

I really do not remember taking a hose off the old water pump that connected to the head.

Thank you.
Image
Do you have a workshop manual ? If not - PM for the free download. And for that hose - DO NOT use the ghastly concertina hose sold by some - far better with a thick wall hose - as Dennis says above - heater hose will do nicely. You will probably need to take the water pump offto fit it.
Edit - I see been covered elsewhere - why the two posts ???

Whats wrong with the rubber concertina hose BMC?

It bursts- very easily. Wrecks the engine/leaves you stranded - don't risk it! Roadside emergency repair use only - but if you have a good thick straight hose fitted - there won't be a roadside repair anyway!

Whats wrong with the rubber concertina hose BMC?
most/all seem to be produced for a fraction of a penny, with poor rubber and no reinforcing therefore will perish rapidly and split easily. In the 80's they were not so bad, but the same goes for most parts now.

The last one I bought was so badly made that it only had a concerina shape on the outside!!! The concertina design was intended so you can replace without removing waterpump but IMHO it's a false saving.
Heater hose is usually good quality rubber multilayer construction including decent reinforcement.

Hi Matt.I use a piece of silicon hose here, they last indefinately so are truly a fit and forget item.another point is when you fit a hose make sure there is no paint underneath or it may leak when the paint gets hot.I have known a top hose come off a rad because of paint softening.
If you would like one let me know.
Image
