Can anyone identify what goes here?

Sorry for the many questions today...last one, I promise (for the day, anyway).

I noticed this when I was installing the engine. Please look between the water pump and the cylinder head.

Does a hose go there? If so, is it a special type?

I really do not remember taking a hose off the old water pump that connected to the head.

Thank you.
Image
Is it a special type? I'm assuming it's just a short bit that fits between the two openings, right?

Also, I don't know why my computer is double posting...sorry for that.

Yes, just a short piece to connect the 2 pipes. You can get squashy convelluted ones which you can fit in situ but these seem to be less reliable. Best method is a solid hose but water pump will have to come off to fit it unless you are very lucky/carefull etc...

Is this just a short bit of heater hose obtainable from any of the parts stores that are open tomorrow?

Its small diameter compared to other hoses. I would have thought that most Motor Factors would stock them as they are fitted to all A series engines upto the A+ versions (Metro etc did away with them). Just ask for a MINI bypass hose as they prob don't know them for Moggie's !!

bye pass hose can be fitted by installing bottom end first then press other end down and on with a good steel rule and dont forget small jubilee clips also

You'll struggle if it's a good thick-wall hose!

Thanks to "Longdog" (have to be careful typing that one!) I've now got a perfectly sized silicone hose to fit there. I will remove the water pump and paint the fan yellow.

Thank you for all the support and help.
