Hi all,
bought a couple of engines to play with (1098 & 948) and guess what...the 1098 had a 12g295 on it...heh-hay!
Can anyone tell me from the picture posted whether or not it has been skimmed yet? It looks like someone has polished it but as I dont know what an unskimmed one looks like, I dont know if the key step has been taken!
Cheers,
Russ

They shouldn't look different, just thinner! Pretty sure standard is 2.75''

0.70thou removed by my calculation, I think it's normally a 0.60 skim?

Confirms my draftsmans eye. Certainly looks like the thinner of the two 295 heads I have.

guys,
sounds like this is skimmed already then? (please say yes!!)
If so, that is a gift from God, because my 12g940 is nearly ready to trial-fit; if it doesnt work, the above head can go straight on and I dont have to refit my 12g202! (progress is good!

).

Yes - all heads 2.75 as standard - so yours has been skimmed. Confirmed by the view across the head - where the little 'tongue' at the edge of the head is flat with the main face - on an unskimmed head it lies above the main surface. The chambers have been lightly cleaned up - the valves look to be a bit 'pocketed' - but it will be a fine head, although not as good as a 940!
