I have replaced both handbrake cables on our 65 moggy but there is still too much slack after tightening the adjusting nuts. Brake shoes are new; handbrake handle is almost vertical and not sure what else can be done? Advice welcome, regards, John

Support the rear of the car on axle stands and remove the rear wheels.
Release the handbrake fully.
Adjust up the rear brakes.
Apply a few drops of oil to the inner cable where it comes out off the outer sheath at the wheel end. That will help to keep the end of the cable from rusting.
Now adjust the handbrake cables until both drums are equally locked after 4 or 5 clicks on the handbrake.
Release the handbrake 1 click, you should just be able to move the drums. Adjust the cables slightly to even the brakes.
Top up the rear dampers.
Apply a few squirts of grease to the nipples
Replace the wheels etc.
If that doesn't work read the next comments

Are they really?? Same wheelbase.
Are the rear wheel cylinders free to move - probably best to renew them if in any doubt.
