Hi folks, for those that are interested in driving their Mog without earplugs here's an update.
I have tackled the soundproofing with different materials depending on access in the future, these are as follows;
Dynamat.Used where panels are likely to drone, applied to bulkhead behind dash, underside of dash,gearbox tunnel,doors,kidney bowls,rear quarter panels,roof over cab (traveller) and strategic panels applied to floor.
13mm Closed cell foam.I applied this to floor pan,behind dash on bulkhead,rear quarter panels,under rear seat,and under "parcel shelf",apertures in doors not covered by mat,secured with gaffer tape.
Original Jute soundproofing.This was used on floorpan,gearbox/prop tunnel and under rear seat.There is only a layer of foam and Dnamat under the pedal area.
The results are amazing.It is no longer possible to hear the fuel pump ticking and at cruising speed the car feels refined and it is possible to hear the stereo with renewed clarity.
Bearing in mind I have a fairly rorty maniflow system on the car it's impressive.
There is one downside however,all of the rattles and squeeks which were masked by engine noise have become apparent, I shall now be tackling them. <br><br>

Tidy job, where did you purchase Dynamat and approx cost?

Hi millerman,Dynamat came from ebay.I bought a bulk pack of 9 sheets for £120 which was more than sufficient.As it is a buy it now job I think they may still have some.Some retailers want £200 for a pack this size so the advice is to shop around.

Hi small update, car audio security is the company and they still have some at the same price.This is Dynamat Extreme not to be confused with ordinary Dynamat.

Merry New year!! Super job, can't get my head round the idea of £120 even let alone £200, but looks excellent! Where did you source the closed cell sheet, at what size/price?

The closed cell foam was pipe insulation also from ebay.Cost of this was £50 for enough to do two mogs.Product is called Armaflex which is fireproof and water resistant and comes in a flat sheet 1m in width so is ideal and a fraction of the price of automotive stuff.

i got some by ivanoho and it again seems good, has good sticky qualities, foil backed and £20.00 for 20 sq ft

what thickness did you use? all the same?

All panels treated have only 1 layer which seems sufficient.

Im at the point of soundproofing mine. before i spend that sort of money will you be able to tell if its any good?

what thickness of dynamat?
1/8, 1/4, 1/2 (i think those the the thicknesses it comes in?)

Im at the point where the interior can be done(new rubbers ) and am quite interested in soundproofing

have you gone for something under the hood?

Hi thickness of Dynamat extreme is about 1.5mm, it is the aluminium backed Butyl that I used.The foam they make comes in the thicknesses you quoted.

I used Newton commercial quilted mat under bonnet so did not use dynamat here<br><br>

how is that fitted on

Thats nice, how much do they want for one of those

I cant remember exactly, about 50 sheets rings a bell.It is fitted with contact adhesive.Gives the bonnet a nice thud when it is closed too.

Did you do it all in one go?
If not, which made the most difference.
Particularly doing the doors, how much quieter did they make it?

Hi Mark I did do the job in one go.I would have thought the bulkhead, followed by the floor make the most difference however doing the doors gives them a nice dull thud when they are closed and cuts down some noise.You can always do the job in stages though.I also found putting this stuff in the roof reduces drumming.You can tell by tapping panels where the matting will have the greatest effect.A lot of people who have used Dynamat suggest that you can fit 2 inch strips 2 inches apart but obviously total coverage works best.Hope this helps, Andy.
