I've just bought a morris 1000 off ebay. It was advertised with a 5 speed box (ford? how do i tell) but i think it has an HIF38 carb and 3-1 manifold?
It has odd sized wheels and disc brakes. Can i change the 13 inch front wheels for standard minor ones or has it been left for a reason?

The rocker cover, fan and genny are all red but the block is green so i was wondering if the engine had been changed. Engine number is LOMA U H 354996. Does this donate capacity?

first of all welcome to the site

the front wheels are prob marina, so you would have to change the hubs if you want morris minor wheels

i would suspect that the discs are marina based, a good set up

the capacity should be on the right hand side as you stand fom the rad,its nr the sump should say 1100

Found the plate and it is indeed a 1100.
Where abouts is the cylinder head number, i'm quite intriuged by the red paint and would like to know if the cylinder head has been changed.

Looks like a standard 1098 engine with a 3 branch manifold and an HIF38 or 44. The head number will be cast into it but you need to remove the rocker cover (the red painted bit) to see it. Discs will probably be Marina but this means that you cannot fit 14" Moggie wheels because the PCD is different so to get a matching set you would have to get your front hubs redrilled to 4" PCD.

Nice exhaust manifold ! Otherwise looks standard - with Metro carb fitted. That engine number will be 10 MA etc - indicating 1098 cc, which you have confirmed with the little 1100 plate. Can only suggest you try to select 5 gears !

Definitley have a five speed box (i can find 5 gears) but i just wanted to confirm the origin of it for future spares. Looking at bellhousing the top has a large chunk out of it so i can see the flywheel?

Would also like to know the ratios to work out whether to get a 3.9 or 3.7 diff to go with it?

The hole in the bell housing is to clear the steering rack.
With an overdrive 5th gear you will not need to change the diff ratio.

If you post up a picture of it with the carpet removed someone will be able to tell as it will have a diferent tunnel cover and the lever will be nearer the handbrake.

Red paint is definitely worth an additional 10 bhp.

The front disks will be Marina, and has Marina PCD (cos it's got Marina 13" rims)- you can't fit Minor wheels unless you can get the hubs modified (not always possible). There is an easy way to get 14" wheels if you want them.

The engine looked to have a 1275 head on it - therefore I had asked for engine number from the seller but she didn't reply. I'm happy to know it is a 1100, because I'd have bid much higher if it was a 1275!
The engine number will be 10MA not L0MA
From your photos I see I was wrong on the 1275 head - thermostat housing position looked like 1275 on the ebay photos, but wasn't easy to tell.

Hi Ray,bidding in the last 10 secs seems to be the way. I guestimated it was worth £800 and slapped it down at the last mo. Quite happy with what i've got but needs some work. Just fround some good holes around the rear spring rear hangers and head gasket is shot in my opinion. T-Cut has made it much prettier.

You're right about the head, it is a 12G 202. Might be original milage though as there's a little old lady story from the PO and V5 and engine no's match up.

I'm guessing your easy conversion to morris wheels is by buying the £20 hubs from the dealers?

The hubs will cost more (usually). The easy way to get 14" fronts is Maestro / Montego. If you add fittings for the Minor hubcaps and add the wheel embelishers you can have it looking original.

If you're after a 2 door saloon with 5 speed box and front disks and some MOT it's probably worth more. If you can DIY the welding it'll be a very viable project cost wise.

Yup you can get exchange hubs from esm (and presumably others). It would be a good idea to change the discs pads and wheel bearings while you are at it.

Where is reverse on the gearbox, and can you take a pic of it from under the car? (both sides) which will help identification

well you ive and learn - I've never used a Marina disk brake set up* so not had to worry about it, but have provided 14" Montego wheels for the Marina hubs.

* My Marina has 10" front drums and 4.5" PCD and it's getting a Ford disk brake kit...
