This is part of an ongoing engine refurbishment. I apoligise that my relationship in this forum is mainly one-way...I sure do appreciate the knowledge here.

I purchased a replacement (new) heater valve for the engine. I discovered the replacement does not offer enough clearance for the rocker cover to fit.

The existing one has a bit of a rearwards angle to allow the rocker cover to fit.

So, I've decided to simply clean the old one up and re-install.

During the tear down I bagged up and labeled all parts that I removed.

In the heater valve bag I have the valve itself and a metal plate that appears to fit underneath the valve (sort of like a gasket). My question is this...

How does the paper-ish gasket fit in relation to the valve and the metal plate?

Does the new valve fit OK if you use the metal spacer too? That's what I found...

I made a second paper gasket so I could have one between the head and the spacer, and another between the spacer and the valve.

I don't know...I'll see. Good idea Alex. I'll let you know.

As long as the spacer plate has a hole in the middle! Only ones I have seen are blanking plates - to seal off the head where no heater in use.
