ok i have to refit my traveller woodwork very shortley, i have been reading a few of the old threads and was wondering if this is still the common consensus......cuprinol 5 star,Burgess woodsealer, dulux micropourus top coat varnish

what about the aluminium panels to the woodwork and to the bodyshell? - dumdum paste? or silcon adhesive

Yes to Cuprinol 5 star, I'd then re tint with Burges wood sealer, and top coat with exterior gloss varnish. I will not use microporous, but this is only my own preferance. Use Dum dum ,not silicon to isolate the ally panelwork.

I'd use Dum Dum sealant between the wood and the panels.

'not silicon to isolate the ally panelwork' any reason as to why not, sicoflex (not sure of the spelling) hs been mentioned before too?

Dum Dum is a much more forgiving product and is easily removed. Sikaflex is an adhesive and will rip the wood before letting go.

Hi 62, I used sikkens woodstain in light oak wiped with a cloth after 1 hour.
Next 5 coats of Epifanes which is regarded by boat builders as the finest yacht varnish in existance. You need about 2 litres for this.It is a good idea to buy a proper brush for this purpose.Rub down in between coats with 400 grit w+d used dry.Good luck it is very rewarding.
Image
