If your fuel pump code starts AUA, AUB, or AUF it is not polarity concious but if it starts AZX it is, and if the pump has Red sealing tape its Positive and if it has Black sealing tape its Negative.

What does it mean if it has blue tape on it, with the S.U. logo printed in yellow?

I think that is for one of the electronic pumps, although its not mentioned in the sheet that came with my pump, if its electronic the base part is one piece and shorter instead of 2 piece like the originals, and it does not use a diaphragm.

Interesting. I ask, because that's what mine has, although I bought it new (not recon) 2 years ago. That could be the reason for the colour change... I was just wondering if the coloured tape was the same for the newer batches.
Sorry if I went at it in a round-about way - I'm suffering with a cold and can't think straight at the mo: thank goodness for half term!!

If the tape is blue with the SU logo printed in Yellow or similar all around the tape, it just means that it is a factory reconditiioned pump. Just like Goldseal engines and gearboxes were painted gold; SU put logo'd tape around the body of the pumps.
Yours is probably a new unit, but companies like to add a bit of nostalgia sometimes or get board and find new ways of wasting old stickers!
You can buy reproduction SU recon' pump stickers to make your Minor look all authentic, as well as the blue cooper stickers for the later type air filters, etc.... from Minor specialists.

So there you go.
I had a look, actually, and the blue tape (which is swear was there) is no more. Just some blue Duck tape from when I last cleaned the points...
Sounds about right, though. In any case, it was bought as a new pump, and looked brand spanking when I had it.
Bring on the lemsip!
