Bump!
Everyone was OK and it happened after driving away from a stretch of icy road at about 20mph. I guess although the sun was on that bit it hadn't thawed properly. Never assume eh?

Amazingly only the wing and bumper are bent. They contacted the tree that stopped us ending up in a 6ft ditch.
Thanks to the Landy driver that towed us out. No impact to wheel or suspension so a tentative drive down the road and I was happy to go the rest of the way.

Mine stayed in the garage as we don't get too well gritted out here in the sticks.

Oh no! Glad the damage is not too severe and there were no injuries, bad luck all the same. Good job the tree was there!

Had a bit of an accident myself on the way to work friday morning. A transit pulled out of a side road into my path & couldnt avoid it All the dammage is quite high up so the main structure of the car is ok has dammaged the inner wing where the bumper iorn mounts & it all looks repairable. have the insurance assessor comming monday so should find out then what they're likley to do<br><br><br>

glad mine stayed in garage but glad to see everyone is ok bad enough to lose a moggy but worse to lose a moggy lover<br><br>

At least yours was unavoidable. With a bit of skidpan or a few more miles in a Minor under my belt I might of got out of my predicament. that'll teach me to keep it undercover when the weather turns
I don't know if I'll need to go through the insurers. It could be cheaper to do it myself with the excess and inevitable hike in premium.

To add insult to (lack of) injury I've just popped the telly on and Tiff Needell is powersliding a moggy on 5th Gear.

Really glad to hear you (both) are ok.

For driving expereience Peetee you may have a point. Anyone fairly new to Minors could be in the same boat - I remember many hairy moments myself when I was new to Minors and there was snow or ice.
In the end I learnt what I was doing in empty carparks. It doesn't take long to pick up the right reactions, and if you have acres of space you can concentrate on what the car is doing rather than panic about what you might hit.
I may look like a hooligan but it's something I still do in whichever car i'm driving - If spotting an empty carpark that's got ice or snow I treat it like a free skidpan for a bit of practise.

If that's the ancient top gear clip, I'm surprised they can show it on "5th Gear" as BBC should own it AFAIK but if it's a new re-enactment then it's all good - see the thread for 'attracting young blood'.

Well I have owned one or another for a number of years but they have always been second cars and I've never driven one in adverse conditions.
Thing is, you can practice the right thing to do all day long in your head but in the real world, unless you have to put it into practice a few times in your car then it's more a game of chance and luck because you need to know when to stop correcting your steering for this particular sway and set up your steering for the next - oh and how much lock to apply!

Had the insurance assessor have a look today he liked my car & knows the person who sprayed it which is a plus. but he has to be impartial on it so its down to maths.
Thanks for the offer of parts I still have to see how the insurance goes but may need a bonnet & slam pannel/rad cowl as these seem to be S/H only

I have a bonnet. It will need a total strip down though cos the paints cracked.
Please accept it cos it's going to be a real pig to get rid of otherwise.

Looking back on my spin, it's quite amazing how far I travelled for such a low speed accident. I rekon I ended up 150ft away from where the slide started. I thought 25mph was a sensible speed and would allow me time to correct anything that went wrong. Whatever I did wrong I really did it wrong! The road was a very slight bend on a hill. I think {tries to remember} the car slipped slightly to the right, I (over) corrected and backed off, the tyres bit again (I can remember the revs dropping suddenly) and that set off a sudden move in the other direction which started a full 360 by which time I was on my way to the other side of the road.

It is an original wing though and he was built right too
