Coventry and Warwickshire - branch revival! March 2009...

In case you didn't get an invite, we're trying to put a branch back on the map. If you know others in the area please pass on an invite.

Coventry and District branch has long been rumoured to be dissolved as it's not always been easy to get in touch and meetings have not always happened.

To fill in a gap I'm making a meeting on 11th December in Leamington Spa to cover Coventry and Warwickshire areas. Anyone who can make it is welcome.
Start time is 7pm - venue to be confirmed within a few days (when I've asked them). Most likely to be at a public house on Tachbrook Road, Leamington Spa.

Any Questions - please let me know by PM.
There's a small thread already running for this:

Would non members be welcome ?
Is it an official MMOC sponsored meeting or an independant one ?

All are welcome - branch rules vary but AFAIK there is no national policy that dictates the rules.

The first one is an 'unofficial meeting' to get the ball rolling, but the long term aim is to propogate an official MMOC branch.

We started an unofficial Nuneaton Branch back in the summer and have had 3 or 4 meetings however apart from 2 members of this board it hasn't been a raving success. The reason we started it primarily was because of the lack of response from the official Coventry branch personnel. Hopefully, Ray will be better supported as it get very depressing when no one new turns up despite promises and you tend to feel that the "I won't bother anymore" attitude justified....

Depends on what these meetings are designed to achieve. If its just a social, then maybe a few meetings is enough to let some folk know that this sort of do is not for them. Must admit the last thing I'd want to do is talk Minors all night, but I would enjoy lively debate on many other topics of interest, and I don't drink, play cards, dominoes or table skittles. Is there any hope or am I doooomed

Depends on what these meetings are designed to achieve.
Networking and hopefully friendships between Minor enthusiasts.
A branch is a good way to network with local enthusiasts. Everyone is different so this in need of technical advice or a second opinion or even some practical help can meet those with a bit more knowledge etc... Things shouldn't stop with the cars, when there can be many events to discuss.

Agreed, moral support with a difficult project sometimes means the difference with the car being finished as opposed to being scrapped.

Anyway it's nice to meet up with other enthusiasts outside of the usual rally scene. :D

OK all - I'm just back from the 'venue' and we're booked in
We will be meeting at 7pm on Thursday 11th December at 'The Windmill' on Tachbrook Road, Leamington Spa. (For those with satnav adiction, it's CV31 3DD). As it's Christmas period I really didn't want to name it before checking, in case they were fully booked with a Christmas party!

It's a big white pub, right on the road with carpark alongside.
The pub has a bar and lounge/restaurant. The lounge/restaurant is called 'Jack Spratts' and we have a table (booked in the name of 'Ray') - should be to the right of the door as you go in.

There should be about 7 of us (maybe a few more?) which is not a bad turn out for 1 week's notice and no advertising in the club mag!

I expect most people will want to eat before arriving but for those who don't, food is available until 9pm. The pub food has always been good and very good value for money whenever I've eaten there. Tea/coffee and soft drinks readily available, and of course a nice pint if you prefer.

If you have a vague idea of how to get around Leamington, Tachbrook road starts at the traffic lights by the train station. If you head south (away from town) the pub is on the left, after less than a mile. If you get to a sign saying 'Whitnash' then you've gone a few metres too far.
For anyone else, here's a link to a map:

I couldn't agree more! About a year ago we had questions from a Coventry guy with a Traveller (UOGmoggie) who needed a second opinion. With a visit to Coventry, his car turned out to be far too good to be scrapped and gave him some hope.

Great to see so many of you tonight!
We were just one short of double figures, which was excellent for such short notice. Details for January will be forwarded as soon as possible.

Merry Christmas!

OK folks - it's long overdue but the next meeting is pencilled in for March! Sorry that it's taken so long but hassles at work + building work at home + getting married meant I didn't have any spare seconds to organise any car stuff.

As discussed in December, Coventry branch are still meeting but keen to get a new influx. Us Warwickshire lot are well placed to meet in Kenilworth - therefore it's a plan to meet on the 3rd Thursday of March in Kenilworth making a joint meeting with the remaining Cov members - hopefully in sufficient numbers to make an good impact.

Please spread the word to all Minor owners within travelling distance!
At some point the Town and Country show (Stoneleigh in August) needs to be discussed...

Sorry for any Typos - I'm currently anebriated and soon to be married :D

Venue should be announced some time in March - when I'm back from honeymoon!

I've never managed to make a sticky - so if someone manages it for me I would be greatful - it can be non stickied after March...

No sooner said ........

Have a really good day tomorrow Ray. A 'Minor Hitch' ?

Bill.

I'm sure there will be a few people in the Rugby branch living nearby, in fact I know of one who lives in Kenilworth. I'll pass the news on.

Hi all,
Sorry for not having organised this Month's meeting. The reason for missing venue and time is becuase there isn't one.

Following an op I'm not allowed to walk for another couple of weeks (and no driving either). The op came at a few days notice so with work hassles and family I didn't get chance to plan ahead.

I had planned to meet up with Ian Minor who is currently co-ordinating the Coventry branch but that has been put back to April.
Coventry normally meet on the last Wednesday of the month so as soon as something tangible is on the cards I'll post meeting details.

Sorry for being a bit useless - I'm hoping normal service will be returned ASAP.
