Request to board admin

I would much prefer it if the board didnt automatically mark all messages as read when I log out, since this means that if I walk away from my session for an hour or so then I get logged out and I dont have any idea of those messages I havent actually read.

IIRC phpBB2 has links that can be used to mark all threads as read, so if people want to reset their read status they can, but IMO foisting it on users without giving them the choice seriously reduces the usability of the site.

Just my £0.02 ;)

I would second that, if I may :-)

I've just checked and I can't find any option to change that. Sorry.

After a quick google, it appears that you will need to install a mod to enable this functionality:
http://www.phpbb.com/mods/db/index.php? ... ib_id=1535

The following mod may also be useful:

I take it that you wont be installing these mods then?

The mods aren't specifically for the version that this board runs on, which is modified for use with the main site, and then modifed again for more functionality and security. I will look at providing the extra feature, but it'll take time as I won't risk breaking the system.

If you do manage it Jon , I'll buy you a pint ;-)
I think it would be a very neat option as loosing the new post markers can be very frustrating (especially if it happens just because IE crashes on this pc a lot...)

I'l second all the above (including the pint), but have to say that modding this sort of thing (I've just been doing Cubecart, integrated into a site and to the payment software) can be an absolute nightmare. I found a couple of really good programme specific forums though - Alain's link seems to be to the same sort of thing, and may offer mods/pro installation etc. As I said though, it can take hours and hours. And hours

Heh ... if you are interested ... I actually work for a company that sells a forum type software, its integrated with a kind of content management system called a 'wiki'. Given that the MMOC is a non-profit organisation I think it should be possible to get a FREE confluence license, which would also give you FREE builder and bubbles licenses. The MMOC would probably need to pay for hosting though, and given the complexity of hosting a java app like confluence you probably wouldnt be best served by doing it in-house.

It does have to be said though, the forum software isnt yet as advanced as phpBB2 so it would be worth holding off for 6->12 months or so while we bring it upto scratch ... still, it's something to think about since it would provide a nice simple way of creating specialised interest groups, and allowing those interest groups to edit their own pages.

Example forum:

PS: this is NOT meant to be an advertisement of my company's services - I'm actually offering to give our products away for FREE, and would be supporting their use on my own time ;)
