New Job!

I've just been offered a job at the Royal Marines Museum as a 'maintenance man' (not sure what the official name is

) Not much of a jump from School Caretaker except larger projects and the chance to work on old military hardware
I'm really quite excited! (I happen to live on the old Eastney Barracks site which is where the museum is based, so very very close!)

Congrats!
It's nice to hear of someone getting a job instead of loosing one.

Could be a chance to exhibit the odd military traveller???

Military Travellers? Are there really military travellers?!?
It does mean I might have to buy a mini moke to drive to work in (ok it's a bit close to drive to work, I could just leave it parked up in the car park, hehe)

Do you get to fire the guns to make sure they are in working order ??? Awsome job - wish I could land something like that!

I don't

although I do get front row seats in the summer when they fire the guns for the public! They do have some very nice (non operational) artillery pieces and vehicles.

It's quite a lovely setting, right on the seafront and surrounded by the old barracks. Grounds are nice as well. Would actually be quite a good place for a rally. I'll be taking the job and I'll find out feasibility if people are interested?

don't know how much of a rally it would be for me! i'd just walk there! 10minutes walk tops! so Mike beats me with working there and living next to it, but still! i like the idea though...

I'll give you a lift if your car won't make it that far!

Well, I also happen to be very close friends with a guy that runs Hollycombe Steam Collection in Liphook, we could organise a rally to there if there isn't one already, although it is only 40 minutes or so for us in Pompey. It's an awesome site.
(A few of us went up in May this year when it was closed and spent a week camping, got to drive a steam train, a fire engine, a tractor, an assortment of steam powered rides and sheared my first sheep! I did end up crushing his leg in the tractor... it was his fault though for a few reasons. Fortunately after 7 months of infections and bumbling by nurses it is almost back to being normal.)

I'm up for that. I did suggest it for this year but I didn't get much response

I've just re-read my previous post, I'd like to clear up that I crushed Roy's (my mate) leg not the sheeps!

I think Roy might prefer you having a rally elsewhere!!

And keep well away from me - i don't need shearing - or crushing thank you very much!
