Fuel pump refurbishment

Well maybe refurbishment it a bit strong, but I've got an su fuel pump I want to fit to my car in place of the one currently on there.
I'm thinking clean the filter and replace the points, anything else advisable to do?
One other question if I may. There seem to be single contact and double contact replacement points available to buy, but I don't know which to get! Any ideas?
Cheers.

Double points! Just check the diaphragm is free to move - run the pump empty on test leads before fitting.

Bad idea - the SU electric pump is very very reliable giving many years of good service. And if it does eventually fail - can usually be revived at the side of the road by simply pulling a nail emery board or even just a piece of cardboard through between the points. Of course - that's the warning shot - new points should be fitted asap!

I replaced my SU pump due to problems with the "Hardi" electronic pump which is a direct 1:1 replacement. An excellent pump, if at first a bit noisy so I fitted two M6 vibtation mounts. Never had a problem since.

Good luck - quite a few have reported longevity problems with these non-SU replicas!

The Hardi pump is quite a common replacement here in Germany-probably because it's a German product. Not cheap@92€ but good
Have a look at their website.

I had 2 different su pumps when i had the 1275 in my car and both of them were constantly giving me problems. I switched over to a japanese pump ( feeder pump for my efi fuel pump) and it has yet to give me any problems.

My SU pump is the original (134,00 miles 56 years old) and has been totally reliable, the points were worn out at about 100,000 so I silver soldered contacts on from a set of points! which have been going ever since!
I do wonder about the diaphram as it has had quite a few cycles over this time, and now with unleaded fuel! but all seems fine so far

Interesting comments there chaps
I'm actually going from a Hardi pump to an su model so we'll see how it performs.
I have had no problems with the Hardi pump, but it is of unknown age and I am trying to prepare the car for more trips away from home in the future. If nothing else this exercise will give me a spare pump

As long as you carry a working spare pump - the one on the car will be utterly faultless.
