Just come back from the river. Cold snowy day, so I bought 2 bags of value bread from Somerfield (who conveniently built their store next to the water) and spent 10 minutes being mobbed by about 60 ducks, 3 moorhens, 2 geese and a handful of pigeons. The ducks know me by my trademark padded jacket now, and start squawking as I go past on the way to the store. So hungry that they were jumping up pecking at my fingers, not so good when the geese start that! Just made life a bit better, and for only 90pence. What a fix!

A similar feeling when I was on holiday in the Lake District during the "summer" in a rented cottage. The local red squirrel would sit on the kitchen window ledge in the mornings waiting for its breakfast.

Our little visitor last weekend:

We rescued him from certain two dimensionalness on the road outside our house. He was penned in the guinea pig run and fed worms (by hand-ouch, sharp teeth!) and a slug (which was clearly his favourite because he practically leaped on it). A supper of cat food and 1 hour later he was practically asleep on his feet!

he was then introduced to the 'Hedgehog House' (TM. Pat pending) and after a quick shuftie he was off forging again and was quite comfortable with us being there or thereabouts so we left him to it.
Why I win the lottery I shall run a sanctuary for these little critters. I love em to bits. Soooo cute.
[Note to self; Must start buying Lottery tickets]
