Hi,


Can someone please let me know how was the gearbox tunnel cover on LHD cars? I can't seam to find any reference to this, only RHD! And what about the master cilinder's cover plate?

I suppose it was a mirror image - since the master cylinder moved across with the steering wheel.

Well, that was also my assumption...

However, the gearbox tunnel that is in fact fitted to the car is not like that. It's just like a RHD one and has a metal plate soldered to it so as to cover what should be the master cilinder's cover. And the soldering is really scruffy, not at all looking as if it was factory made. On the other hand, looking at catalogs of several suppliers I came across no reference of a LHD gearbox tunnel cover, hence my question!

Obviously I do have the option of making a mirror cover from a RHD one but I don't want to take all that troble just tofind out later that the original solution was different...

Yes, the left hand drive gearbox tunnel was factory made and is one piece. Besides the master cylindeer cut out. The LHD ones do not have a hole for the clutch pedal, which is through the floor on the left side. Perhaps also the notch for the brake pedal is not mirror but transferred since the pedal has a bit of an offset. Fabricating one from the other should be an easy task.
Assuming you have a BMC Minor and not a Series MM, which might be different. Also there are two styles of covers for the remote shifter type gearbox. The first couple of years did not have the relief for the left foot on RHD cars. With the remote shifter biased to the right, the footwell is a bit narrower. However, I sure both RHD and LHD cars used the same stamping die.
