quarter light mirrors

Am I right in my belief that the quarter light mirrors clamp on the the glass in the quarter light (as in the 'vent window thingy' (technical/engineering term there.))? Surely this would make it prone to vandalism? Some little eurk trying to pry the window open? Are there clamp on mirrors that fit to the door frame? What would they be called?

Thanks!

I think most of them clip to the frame rather than the glass.

Otherwise when you open the QL your mirror goes with it!

and tbh most of them aren't great for visibility anyway. If you want an example of the ones BM sell feel free to have a sit in my trav next week at SADMOG - if you come!

No you are wrong in your belief. Quarterlight mirrors clamp onto the window frame between the quarterlight and the window.
Alternatively you can buy mirrors that fit in the triangular panel in front of the quarterlight.
There was a recent topic about the pros and cons of quarterlight mirrors.

I will have to come now! Would be cool to see them in situ, never have before so no idea. (It didn't make sense to me that they would be on the window because as you say it'd cause problems when opening the window.)

I cant make any sense of where to put the mirror with the one I have, the clamp seems to be too small, Rod had it on previously so it must fit somewhere, surely.

The second moggy I bought had the mirrors fitted to the quarter light, my first had them on top of the wings. At the first roundabout I came to I found they were directly in my line of vision. I found them so distracting on roundabouts they lasted about a week before i removed them and mounted the mirrors on the wings. I do not know if this was because I had got use to the mirrors on the wings or it could have just been me... but i think it is something worth thinking about. I do not know if other people with mirros mounted on the quarter lights find this.

A question to you wing mirror guys. Do you use flat or convex mirrors on the wings? I have wing mirrors on my saloon, but being so far away the field of view is so small. With convex the field is wide but the images are small. The passenger side one is virtually useless. On my truck I have them mounted to the trianglar filler of the quarter light and convex to see passed the box. They work fairly well so I was going to standardise on that, but I can still be convinced to go wing mirrors. What is required to make wing mirrors usefull? Location, mirror style?

I've got mine on the triangular stainless part of the quarterlight. Circular mirrors with slightly curved arms. You can adjust the mirror for anyone driving in a mo and it doesn't stop you opening the quarterlight.

Flat glass wing mirrors are virtually useless. I have them on my traveller and the field of view is pathetic, which is why I have a pair of quarterlight mirrors as well. I have a pair of convex wing mirrors to fit but I can't get the arms out of the wings so I'm waiting until I fit new wings to fit the new mirrors
I had circular flat glass wing mirrors on my Series MM so I bought a couple of convex mirrors and glued them on top. Works a treat!
You get used to the size of the image
Also with wing mirrors it is easier to judge the front of the car.

What on earth is the point of having mirrors on your wings, they are so chuffing far away they are about as much use as a chocolate fireguard!

Not true! Convex mirrors give a good field of view and as I said earlier they act as markers for the n/s wing and corner of the bumper
and you don't have to alter your line of vision as much. I do however still look over my shoulder when entering a dual carriageway from a slip road
