Stupid PC problem

I have two PC's. One for graphic work with Windows 2000, Photoshop, Corel etc, The other, a laptop (with Vista) for internet access. We have recently gome wireless and the graphic PC is not convertable without adaptation. I have produced and transferred JPG files from machine to machine many times without problem but last week and this I have done some work which refuses to be transferred correctly. I create in photoshop, store on the graphic machines hard drive, copy the file to a memory stick (check it has written to the stick by looking in file manager) then move the memory stick to the other PC. Once plugged in all the stick's files are there except the ones I have just transferred.
It just doesn't make sense. Any ideas?

When removing the memory stick from the computer did you right-click on the bottom right on 'remove USB devices' (or something like that) or just pull the memory stick out after closing the window?
It's a long shot but sometimes pulling the memory stick out without warning the computer before hand can affect its newly added files.

It does. TBH, it doesn't usually matter with Memory sticks, though. Do the obvious things first, e.g. file extension

Not sure why you mentioned the wireless? Have you changed anything in the machine?

Have you tried another USB stick?

If you cant work it out by the weekend I can pop over Saturday after work and take a squint at it if you like....

Just to explain why I don't have internet access and graphics on one machine. Someone was bound to say that it would be the obvious answer.

Yep- did this. It's never proven to be a problem before.

I've had exactly this problem with a duff memory stick.

The reason the stick went duff is because somebody removed it from a PC without first doing the "remove hardware" routine, you should NEVER do this - OK many times you will get away with it, but it can permanently corrupt the USB stick formatting, as it did on mine.

I'm an IT consultant BTW!!

P.S. - I'd also be upgrading the Win2000 machine to XP SP2 personally, but there may be reasons why you don't want to do that - your call.

Ah, erm.. not got round to using the graphics machine today I'm afraid.

If any of you have a PC that is showing its age ... you might like to take a look at xubuntu which is an operating system that is designed for low-end PC's ... if you install 'Wine[url]' then you can even use windows program ... e ISO here, just burn it to a CD and boot the machine with the CD in and you can try it without installing

Admittedly it runs grindingly slow off the CD, but even then it is still faster than windoze!

The only way you're likely to hurt a stick by pulling it out rather than going the 'safely remove' route is if the computer is writing to it at the time (which will corrupt it royally!). If you put the stick back in the graphics machine, are the files you expect to be on it visible on that one?

Well my other half wrecked one by not going through the routine as Luxobarge quotes and it wasnt being written to at the time.
