I have a old traveller which is known to my family as the shed :D. But as you can see from the photo's it needs abit of work. Im hopefully going to restore it back into its original form as a police car once again. But i would like to know that if there's anyone else who might have a police traveller out there

Back with a slight bodge
Image

side with tatty door

Image

front if you can see closely there is a small black lump on the roof where the radio antenna went

Image

inside the cab under the lump is this plastic cover its not really clear but it say's " Panorama Radio Co London"

Image

and in the back where there boot floor is .Its just painted matt black there has not been no mats fitted at all to the floor of the boot or the backs of the rear seat. it has an alternator fitted and front disc brakes. The brakes might be a later addition but the alternator is original.

Thanks For reading

if you have any information regarding police travellers please email me at

When I joined up in '65, every station in Hertfordshire had a black Traveller. They had just a roof mounted radio aerial, a rear hinge mounted 'stop' operated by a piece of string through to the front. Invariably no front passenger seat 'cos the frames were always broken. Most had a bolt through the bonnet side to hold the cross straps which had also broken away. They were all fitted with Pirelli Cinturato radial tyres.
What was always amusing that it was obligatory to wear your helmet so for the tallest guy meant having to drive with your head on one side. The only good side was that whilst on the beat having a crafty fag in a shop doorway, you could hear the Sergeant coming from a distance. Happy days, Charlie.

i know they were used but have never come across any or what their spec was.... I assume the cheaper saloon was prefered for police on the beat!!!!

Hi Steve, nice to see the old Traveller again! Just to let you know, those front discs were fitted by one of the previous owners, they are Ford calipers, and the alternator is certainly original.

If I remember rightly a lot of the Scottish police forces used travellers...

There was one on the club stand at the NEC a few years back when they did a Police theme. Don't know whose it was, but shoudl be able to find out with some research.

Here's the only pic I can find of it:

Reg is MWD 710E if you can't make it out on the pic. It is a genuine Police car though. Lighting is poor at the NEC....

Blimey! Does the club have so many vehicles at it's disposal that it can use a lowlight in a fake crash scene? :o :o

Er, confession time! Its my lowlight and it really wasn't a very good one honest! Not many folk wanted to volunteer a car to have it on its roof oddly enough, and this one was handy. Complete enough to look ok, but no engine or interior or sills come to that... It did its job well though, that of publicising the club as it got featured in most of the classic car magazines that year.
However, I don't scrap a lowlight lightly, and this car is still around and will live again :)
